"Clifford Brooks tells us early on, ‘I reflect on all the reasons / life refused to let me go.’ But his expansive poems are more than reflections, so much more. Brooks creates in his work places where the blues and philosophy both sing their songs of modern doubt and love . . . . In his vast and varied writings in Athena Departs, Clifford Brooks invites us to consider where are our voices in this world of problems and possibilities. He will keep singing strong and clear, hoping we find our notes and join the chorus.” - Jon Tribble, author of And There is Many a Good Thing
